Jean A. Giovanetti has a Master of Arts in Journalism from The Ohio State University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and a Bachelor of Science in Economics with a minor in Business Information Systems from Miami University. She has teaching experience at two accredited journalism departments, and more than 10 years of experience working in public relations.

She has taught Public Relations Campaigns, Planning and Management Case Studies in Public Relations, Public Relations Techniques, Principles of Public Relations, Advertising Copy Layout and Production, Principles of Advertising, Editing, and Writing for the Media. As part of the Public Relations Campaigns course, she led the 2016 UWO PRSSA Bateman team to receive an honorable mention in a national competition for developing a campaign for the Student Veterans of America. She also served as the professional adviser to the UWO Public Relations Student Society of America.

Prior to teaching at UW Oshkosh, she taught Introduction to Newswriting, Journalism Techniques for Nonmajors and Introduction to Public Relations at Bowling Green State University. She received eight awards from Ohio State University Extension for teaching and outreach efforts throughout a 19-county area while working as a communications associate for the Agricultural Business Enhancement Center. As Editor of Development Communications at The Ohio State University, she was heavily involved with the strategic launch of a five-year fundraising campaign that went on to raise more than $1 billion.

Outside of public relations, she worked for four years as a freelance reporter and humor columnist for the Sentinel-Tribune in Bowling Green, Ohio. She also wrote on a freelance basis for This Week Newspapers, a chain of weekly newspapers in Columbus, Ohio. She co-authored a refereed journal article in the Journal of Asian Pacific Communication and has several publications in literary journals.
